In this article, we will discuss in detail how to properly set up key events for calls in the Google Analytics 4 interface.
Setting up key events will provide the opportunity to see with your own eyes the effectiveness of call traffic in most GA4 reports. This is how key event statistics look in the Traffic Sources report in GA4: Reports ⟹ Engagement ⟹ Events
Let's take a closer look at setting up a key event for all call categories.
What are key events in GA4
Since March 2024, Google has replaced the term "conversions" in GA4 with "key events" (Key Events). Key events are important user actions on your website that you want to track and analyze.
How to set up a key event for calls
For the event for all call categories in GA4 to display as a key event, go to the "Admin" section and select the "Events" subsection.
In the "Events" menu, click the star next to the Ringostat_calls / Ringostat_calls_static event, this way you will make it a key event:
The Ringostat_calls event includes all incoming calls in the project and calls from the Callback widget.
Important notes
Event appearance time: After setting up the integration with Google Analytics 4 in the Ringostat personal account, the Ringostat_calls/Ringostat_calls_static events will appear in the Google Analytics 4 account within 24 hours.
Possible delays: It may happen that events do not appear in the "Key Events" menu in Google Analytics 4 even after 24 hours. However, they will be activated and displayed in reports. This can be checked in the "Reports" section.
Alternative method: Even if events have not appeared in the "Events" menu, you can set up tracking for various types of calls through creating custom events or using the "Audiences" menu.
